The project ‘Avshalom’ is a short memorial book that tells the poignant and compelling story of my uncle, who was killed in 1978 during his military service. The book also chronicles the history of Israel up to that year, including the signing of the first peace treaty between Israel and Egypt after the Six-Day War in 1967. Through this narrative, the book provides a personal and historical context, shedding light on the challenges and milestones that shaped Israel during those formative years.
The project is based on a variety of archival materials, including documents, family photographs, and letters. These materials offer a rich tapestry of personal and historical details, allowing readers to connect deeply with Avshalom’s story and the broader historical events. The design of the book is intended to be a lasting tribute to Avshalom, preserving his memory and honoring his sacrifice. It also serves as a record of a significant period in Israeli history, capturing the essence of a time marked by conflict, hope, and the pursuit of peace.
By blending personal memoir with historical narrative, ‘Avshalom’ not only commemorates a beloved family member but also provides readers with a deeper understanding of the socio-political landscape of Israel during the late 20th century. The book is a testament to the enduring impact of individual stories within the larger framework of national history, and it seeks to inspire reflection on the cost of war and the value of peace.
