The Activist is my graduation project from the Visual Communication Department at Shenkar College. The project is a visual research book that explores the graphic language of ten significant Israeli protests, including the Israeli Black Panthers Movement (1971), the Peace Now Movement (1978), the LGBT Rights Protest (2018), the Black Flags Protest (2020), and more. It also covers other notable protests such as the Kahane Chai Movement, the Peace Rally, the Disengagement Plan, the Tent Protest, the Women’s Protest, and the Ethiopian Community Protests.
This research examines the visual elements and design strategies employed by these movements, showcasing how graphic design serves as a powerful tool for social change and public engagement. By analyzing the symbols, images, and typography utilized by protest organizers, “The Activist” provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution and impact of protest graphics in Israel. The research not only sheds light on the design of Israeli protests but also aims to categorize the role of visual communication within Israeli culture, offering a personal perspective on these significant social movements.
